Momeni co-sponsors Student art Contest with Fine Rugs of Charleston! Momeni is proud to announce the winner of the first annual Co-Sponsored Student Art Contest with Fine Rugs of Charleston. Cassie Schmitt, a first semester Interior Design student at the Art Institute of Charleston, took home the honor with her beautiful nature-inspired design. The idea for the contest began last November when Bonnie Grant, professor of Interior Design at the Art Institute, brought her students to Fine Rugs of Charleston for a two-day seminar on rugs, their origins and the various techniques utilized to produce them. Grant says, “The students were so interested in the rug design process, we agreed they would so benefit from creating their own designs. Schmitt’s winning design was inspired by a photograph in her (native) Kentucky.” Cassie was told on numerous occasions to re-think her design and modify it, but according to Grant, “she went with what felt right and won.” As part of the first place prize, Schmitt spent three days in the “Big Apple”, where she saw a Broadway show, did some shopping, and visited countless museums and design firms, including a visit to Momeni. While with Momeni, she toured their new facility in Carlstadt, NJ and viewed their assortment of programmed and one-of-a-kind rugs. Additionally, Cassie was able to sit in on a design session with their staff designer. Momeni was honored to be a part of this inspiring experience. Congratulations, Cassie!
